Why Yorkshire is the Home of Great Candle Making in 2027

Yorkshire has always had a strong tradition of craft and making. From the wool mills of the West Riding to the fishing communities of the East Coast, there's something in the Yorkshire character that values quality, honesty, and hard work. It's no surprise, then, that some of the best artisan candle makers in the UK call Yorkshire home.

Why Beverley?

I set up De Lacy at Home in Beverley, East Yorkshire — a market town that's been at the heart of the region's commerce and culture for over a thousand years. Beverley is the kind of place where independent businesses still thrive, where people know their neighbours, and where quality matters more than quantity. It felt like the perfect home for a small-batch candle business built on those same values.

Our studio is at 2 Dyer Lane — a short walk from the iconic Beverley Minster. We're open for collections and always happy to welcome customers who want to see how our candles are made.

The Yorkshire Approach to Craft

There's a Yorkshire saying: "If it's worth doing, it's worth doing right." That philosophy shapes everything we do at De Lacy at Home. We don't cut corners. We don't use cheap materials. We don't rush the process. Every candle is hand-poured using a traditional single-pour method that I've refined over 30 years in the beauty industry.

We use 100% vegan soy wax, sustainable packaging, and eco-friendly glass vessels — not because it's fashionable, but because it's the right thing to do. Yorkshire folk have always been practical and principled, and we're proud to carry that tradition forward.

Supporting Local

When you buy from De Lacy at Home, you're supporting a genuine small business based in the heart of Yorkshire. Your purchase helps us keep making candles the way they should be made — by hand, with care, in small batches. And that means a lot to us.

Thank you for being part of our story.
